Aces Soccer Report From Coach Ed Berberich:

The Soccer Aces played their lone match of the week this Wednesday night at Mt Vernon IL, securing another win by a score of 6-1. Iacopo Clementi scored the first goal of the match in the 14th minute with a key pass from Checco Terna. Mt Vernon tied it up with a score in the 30th minute, but the deadlock was short-lived as the Aces struck back quickly, getting 2 goals within 6 minutes of the Rams' score. The Aces retook the lead on a goal from Britton Heinrich assisted by Clementi, followed shortly afterward with Clementi getting his 2nd goal on an assist from Beau Stipp to give the Aces the 3-1 halftime advantage. The Aces added to their lead in the 49th minute, when Heinrich scored his 2nd goal, assisted by Jarrett West. Clementi got his 3rd goal of the match, & the hat trick, on an assist from Rayce Loudermilk with 30 minutes remaining. Loudermilk completed the scoring, putting the ball in the net with 5 minutes remaining for the 6-1 win. For the match, the Aces took 22 shots, 16 on frame, created 10 chances, took 2 corners and had 4 interceptions. Tye Kanipe had 3 saves in goal. The Rams took 6 shots, 2 on frame, and took 2 corners.

We've only had 2 games in the past 8 days, and I feel like it’s shown. We haven’t played poorly exactly, but we haven’t been quite as sharp or been as aggressive out of the gate as I’d like to see us. In the 1st half of this one, we just got outworked by Mt Vernon. They wanted the ball more than we did it seemed, and we weren’t moving really well without the ball offensively. Our schedule picks back up a bit starting Monday so we’re hoping our intensity and sharpness will pick up as the games start coming a little more frequently. We were on a roll coming in to this stretch and it seems like the time between matches has thrown us off just a little bit. All of our results are on MaxPreps so we're not going to be sneaking up on anybody, & that's something we need to keep in mind as we approach how we start these games.

The JV match was also won by the Aces, with a score of 2-1. Mt Vernon took the lead, scoring the first goal of the game 5 minutes into the 2nd half. Brady Decker then scored 2 goals, with Eli Bertram assisting on both. Decker’s 2nd goal came in the last 4 minutes to win the game.

The Aces now stand at 10-0 (JV: 3-0) on the season. Their next match is at home at 5:00 pm on Monday September 23rd against North Posey. It should be a tough match as Posey’s playing well right now, with no losses and a 6-0-1 record in their last 7 matches.
