Lady Rockets Softball Back To .500 With Win At West Salem

On Monday September 9th the SMS/AJH Softball team traveled to West Salem. The Lady Rockets would come away with another win making their overall 3-3 for the year! The ladies would struggle at the plate starting out. In the first, Lyla Keepes would hit one to the short stop followed by Kali Walker striking out. Nora Jones would get on base but be left there after Bella Andrews got out with a hit to the pitcher. Andrews would fight back though with 3 strike outs. She would walk one batter who would make the score (0-1). The pitchers would battle back and forth the next two innings. Andrews going 3 up and 3 down on both the second and third innings. Still at 0-1 at the top of the forth, the Lady Rockets would find their hot bats. Walker and Andrews would both score to go up 2-1. West Salem tried to answer but with one strike out, an out from Andrews to Lauren Fisher at first, and another out by Fisher the Lady Rockets held their lead. Top of the 5th Courtney Jones hit a single and would be brought home after a triple from Walker. Now up 3-1 West Salem would turn to the bunt to get on base. Their first batter would go on to score but Nora Jones (C) wouldn’t let another bunt attempt score. She got their second batter for the first out. Andrews would strike out two additional players to hold the lead. In the 6th West Salem would hold the Lady Rockets but Andrews would connect with Fisher (1) for the first out. Hazel Earnest would catch a ball to the right field for number two. And Andrews would close the inning with another strike out. The last inning the Lady Rockets would go on a two out rally. Lyla Keepes would be walked and score. Kali Walker would hit to short left center and go on to score. Up 5-2 Andrews wouldn’t give West Salem a chance to answer closing the game with 3 consecutive strike outs. She would end the game with only one walk and an impressive 15 strike outs total! Also seeing the field and at bats were Madison Stevens (3), Elizabeth Hefner (CF), Chandler Cusick (CF), Ruby Newkirk (RF), Breslin Ligon (RF), and Jordis Riley (RF). The girls are back in action at home this Thursday September 12th. Come watch at 430 at 4th Street ball park!
