From Coach Stevens and Coach Jent:
On Friday November 8th the Lady Rockets took on the Cisne Lady Bullets.
In the JV game, the Lady Rockets would lose a close game in the last minute. Ava Jent would be fouled early in the first and sink both free throws for an early lead. Cisne would respond with 3 points of their own before Madeline Mann would score 2 putting SMS/AJH up 4-3 end of the first. Both teams would go scoreless in the second and the Lady Rockets would head into halftime with the lead. Ava Jent would score 2 but Cisne would outscore SMS/AJH 4-2 in the third. (6-7) Ava Jent would again score for the Lady Rockets in the fourth. However the Lady Bullets would respond with 2 of their own. Down one, the Lady Rockets would fervently try to score. In the last minute,the Lady Bullets would obtain possession and score again winning the game 11-8. Ava Jent would have 6 for the night and Madeline Mann 2. Also seeing playing time and demonstrating tough defense was Bella Jent, Cortney Jones, Natalie Hedge, Ruby Newkirk, Hazel Earnest, Lyla Keepes, Kortney Hall, and Linden Stevens.
The Lady Rockets would get the W in the varsity game. SMS/AJH would take a fast early lead and keep it the entire game. In the first they’d outscore Cisne 12-5. Heading into the half, the Lady Rockets would have a commanding 30-5 lead. Slowing the game in the third, the team would extend their lead to 35. The game would end 37-11.
Kali Walker would have 4 points, a couple assists, as well as a couple steals and be noted for her sportsmanship. Nora Jones known for her intense defense would only have one foul and show she’s an offensive threat tonight leading the scoring with 14 points. Sarah McCorkle would again show her shooting range scoring 5 including another 3pt field goal. Madison Stevens would make her presence under the basket known adding 10 points and multiple rebounds for a double double. Jordis Riley would score 4 making it known she is also an offensive scorer. Chandler Cusick and Lily Keepes would add to the defense with rebounds. Also seeing playing time was Ava Jent, Bella Jent, Cortney Jones, Natalie Hedge, and Madeline Mann.
The team hits the road for the next three games. The team is back in action Tuesday at Fort Branch vs the Lady Twigs. Tip off is 5:15.
