On Wednesday, January 9th, the St. Mary’s Lady Rockets traveled to Iuka to play the Bluford Lady Trojans in the first round of the SIJHSAA Region 8 Basketball Tournament. St. Mary’s defeated Bluford 51 - 9. St. Mary’s overall record improves to 11 – 9. St. Mary’s led the entire game, 20 – 0 at the end of the first quarter; 35 – 5 at halftime; and 49 – 7 at the end of the third quarter.
Mady Young and Savannah Zimmerman combined for 35 points, 18 from Young and 17 from Zimmerman, to lead St. Mary’s in scoring. Lexi Stevens added 6 points, Nora Jones 4 points, Anna Gill 2 points, Lindy Rafferty 2 points, and Madison Stevens 2 points. Lauren Hall, Lily Keepes, Kali Walker, and Sarah McCorkle also saw playing time. Shayla Brimley scored 5 points to lead Bluford in scoring.
The St. Mary’s Lady Rockets will return to Iuka on Friday, January 11th, to play New Hope in the second round of the SIJHSAA Region 8 Tournament.
