The winning streaks continue for the Wabash Valley College basketball teams. Saturday at Rend Lake College the women picked up their 8th in a row and the men won their 5th. The Warriors are home Wednesday against Lewis and Clark at 7:30 while the Lady Warriors are on the road at Volunteer State.
The Lady Warriors improved to 13-1 and 5—0 in the GRAC with a 131 to 44 win over Rend Lake. That is the largest winning margin ever for a WVC basketball team 87 points. It was all over in the first five minutes of the game. At the end of the first quarter WVC was up 36-10. Head coach Luke Scheidecker had six Lady Warriors in double figures led by Mariah McCully with 31 points followed by Ashley Moore with 20, Marie Hunter with 18, Ruby Angok had 16, Alexis Thomas had 15 and Frednesha Adams had 11.
The Warriors came up with a big win on the road. Trailing 41 to 35 at half time they exploded in the second half to get their 9th win of the season. They are now 9-5 and 3-2 in the GRAC while R-L falls to 3-10 and 1-4.
Four players led the comeback in the half with Marcus Garrett leading the way with 18 of his game high 23 points. Anthony Christian would get 11 of his 12 points and Tyresse Williford would get nine of his 12. Josh Thomas would get seven of his 13 in the second half. Williford had four threes in the game and Marcel Cherry would have two all in the first half when he scored his 8 points.
