The Warriors and Lady Warriors of Wabash Valley picked up wins on Wednesday night at the Spencer Sports Center. The Lady Warriors ranked 12th in the nation in this week’s JUCO Poll won over Jefferson College 102 to 50 to improve to 12-1. The Warriors won over Elizabethtown Tech out of Elizabethtown, Kentucky 98 to 48. WVC is now 6-5 on the season.
Mariah McCully got the Lady Warriors off to a good start, then Kyra Hogan added to the scoring and WVC was up 12-9 and would go on to lead at the end of the first quarter 19 to 10. A combination of players would help build the lead to 45 to 28 at half time and it was all over. McCully had 18 points and off the bench Ruby Angok would add 14 points and nine rebounds.
The Warriors jumped out early behind three point shooting of Jalen Newsom and Marcus Garrett and when Austin Trice made two free throws WVC was up 11 to 2. They would build a 20 point lead at 33 to 13 with little over 10 minutes left in the half on a basket inside by Anthony Christian. Half time it was WVC 53 and the Barons 27. Marcel Cherry would collect four threes in the game and the Warriors as a team was 12 of 23 from behind the arc. Garrett and Cherry both had 17 points while Newsom had 14 off the bench.
