Phase 2 Of Stadium Project Complete; Is There A Phase 3?

The ribbon cutting and dedication of the Legends Fieldhouse officially completed Phase 2 of the Riverview Stadium renovation project. Phase one involved an extensive overhaul and update of the Stadium seating area, installation of a turf playing surface, 8 lane track and a new press box and bleachers on the visitors side. Phase two involved the construction of the Fieldhouse which includes locker rooms, restrooms, and a huge concession stand area. But now that Phase 2 is finished, will there be a Phase 3? District 3-48 Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer said you’ll have to wait and see….

DR. CHUCK BLEYER ON PHASE 3?

City officials have kicked around the idea of using the area along Golden Aces Way across from the Stadium to construct new baseball and softball fields that could be used by the school district. The new fields would be adjacent to the junior football field and parking lot, But so far, nothing public has been released on those preliminary ideas and it’s unclear if those plans are even still being considered.

June Pride Event Approved For Merchants Park

The Mt. Carmel City Council has approved a Pride event on Saturday, June 22nd. City Clerk Ryan Turner said the event will be similar to those in the past with entertainment and food trucks at Merchants Park from 2 to 6pm on that day. A portion of the street near the event will be closed to traffic for set up of the food truck and vendors. This year’s event is being hosted by a group called Wabash Valley Pride after the original organizers, Mt. Carmel Rally For Justice, announced on Facebook in March they would no longer sponsor the event it started in June of 2021.

Market Street Planter Abuse Discussed At City Council Meeting

For 6 years, Mt. Carmel resident Cathy Renner has done her best to tend to the flowers in the black decorative containers along Market Street. But, during those 6 years, Renner’s efforts have been thwarted by those who either steal the flowers and plants or vandalize the containers by knocking them over. The situation has gotten to the point that Wabash County Crimestoppers has a standing $200 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible. However now, an understandably frustrated Renner has asked the city council for guidance. She was at Tuesday’s city council meeting explaining her discouragement that her attempt to beautify a part of Mt. Carmel is being derailed by criminals. But, after discussing everything from security cameras to placing a squad car near the containers, there were no good options offered to Renner, who the city council and Mayor Joe Judge did offer their thanks and appreciation for her efforts.
