For 6 years, Mt. Carmel resident Cathy Renner has done her best to tend to the flowers in the black decorative containers along Market Street. But, during those 6 years, Renner’s efforts have been thwarted by those who either steal the flowers and plants or vandalize the containers by knocking them over. The situation has gotten to the point that Wabash County Crimestoppers has a standing $200 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible. However now, an understandably frustrated Renner has asked the city council for guidance. She was at Tuesday’s city council meeting explaining her discouragement that her attempt to beautify a part of Mt. Carmel is being derailed by criminals. But, after discussing everything from security cameras to placing a squad car near the containers, there were no good options offered to Renner, who the city council and Mayor Joe Judge did offer their thanks and appreciation for her efforts.
