Judge Says 9th Street Resurfacing To Start Next Summer

The timetable to resurface 9th Street has been moved up to next summer. At this week’s city council meeting, Mayor Joe Judge said a recent meeting with state department of transportation revealed their plans to start work with the start of the new fiscal year on July 1st. That’s the good news. The bad news is the state is shifting a big chunk of the multi-million dollar project to the city. That includes ADA compliant sidewalk work and traffic lights facing side streets totaling $4.3 million. But, Judge said he has been able to drastically reduce that price tag….

Judge said he along with many other local residents were somewhat confused by the recent striping of 9th Street by DOT workers.

MCPU's President Says Take Steps Now To Mitigate Winter Heating Bills

You’ve no doubt seen and heard stories about how natural gas prices are going to impact people around the world this winter. But what’s the impact going to be locally? Mt. Carmel Public Utility President David James was a recent guest on The Morning Show and he dispelled one misconception…

As for your family’s or business’s budget, James said prices are running two to three times more to the highest level since 2008….

James pointed out that the price of natural gas is a pass thru cost and Mt. Carmel Public Utility does not benefit from the increase. He said no utilities profit from the mark up of natural gas prices. The Illinois Commerce Commission has oversight over MCPU and all other utilities in the state to make sure natural gas purchases are prudent with the best price available. James said it’s more important than ever to make sure your home, appliances, and heating system are energy efficient.
