IT’S FIRE PREVENTION WEEK AND THE ILLINOIS STATE FIRE MARSHAL IS URGING FAMILIES TO PLOT OUT THEIR ESCAPE ROUTE. IF A FIRE STARTS IN YOUR HOME, YOU MAY HAVE LESS THAN TWO MINUTES TO GET OUT SAYS FIRE MARSHALL SPOKESMAN J-C FULTZ. THAT’S WHY IT’S IMPORTANT TO HAVE A PLAN IN PLACE. THAT INCLUDES:
FULTZ RECOMMENDS THE WHOLE FAMILY PRACTICE THE ESCAPE PLAN AT LEAST TWICE A YEAR DURING BOTH THE DAYTIME AND NIGHTTIME HOURS.
MT. CARMEL FIRE CHIEF FRANCIS SPETH SAID FIREFIGHTERS ARE VISITING LOCAL SCHOOLS THIS WEEK AS PART OF FIRE PREVENTION WEEK. HE SAID NOW IS A GOOD TIME TO CHECK YOUR SMOKE AND CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS AND CHANGE THE BATTERIES IF IT’S BEEN A YEAR OR LONGER SINCE THEY’VE BEEN CHANGED.
