MCHS Homecoming Court Announced

The 2020-21 Homecoming Court for Mt. Carmel High School has been voted on by the student body and has the honor of representing MCHS this year for Homecoming. The Class Attendants, along with the four Queen Candidates will be honored at halftime of the football game on Friday, April 16 with a Homecoming Queen crowned at that time.

Mt. Carmel Man Arrested For Allegedly Stealing Fuel From Farm

On Wednesday March 3rd, 2021 the Wabash County Sheriff's Office took a report reference the theft of fuel from a farm located north of Mt. Carmel.  Following the investigation it was determined that 18 year old Tyler C. Roosevelt of Mt. Carmel was responsible for the theft of fuel.  On March 9th, 2021 Roosevelt was taken into custody following a traffic stop on College Dr. without incident.  Roosevelt was taken to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged with Theft over $500 processed and released due to jail capacity and COVID protocols. Roosevelt will have an initial court appearance on the 5th of April. 

The Sheriff's Office would like to remind our local farmers to pay special attention to their fuel tanks. More arrests are anticipated in this incident.

Would-Be Jumper Pulled From Bridge

On 3/09/21 at 5:28pm, Wabash County 911 received numerous calls in reference to a male subject attempting to jump off the Wabash River Bridge. Mt. Carmel Police, the Wabash County Sheriff's Office, and the Wabash General Ambulance Service responded to the scene. Upon arrival, several onlookers were restraining the male subject until officers could provide assistance. The male subject was later taken by ambulance and transported to the Wabash General Hospital for evaluation.

Mt. Carmel Man Faces Several Charges Following Monday Incident

On 3/8/21, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Anakin T. Schieve, age 21, of Mt. Carmel, for Violation of an Order of Protection, Criminal Trespass to Property, Criminal Damage to Property, and Resisting a Peace Officer following a welfare check at a residence in the 500 block of North Walnut. During the check, officers discovered that Schieve was inside the home while a protected party of his order of protection was present as well. When officers attempted to speak to Schieve about the violation he fled on foot westbound. Officers followed and determined Schieve had unlawfully entered a home in the 600 block of West 6th Street. While entering the home Schieve damaged the back door as well. Schieve elected to give up just prior to the release of K-9 Roy of the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office handled by Dep. Bogard. Schieve was placed under arrest without further incident and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was held pending a bond setting by a judge.

Mt. Carmel Man Arrested For Violating Order Of Protection

On 3/6/21, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Shawn D. Standish, age 47, of Mt. Carmel, for Violation of an Order of Protection following a complaint of a violation from protected party. Officers investigated the complaint and found evidence that Standish had violated the court order which later led to his arrest in the 1000 block of West 6th Street. Standish was cited for the offense and released with a court date.

Report Of Suspicious Person Leads To Arrest Of Mt. Carmel Man On DUI Charge

On 3/9/21, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Thomas A. Woodyard, age 45, of Mt. Carmel, for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Woodyard was reported by the public as a suspicious person attempting to break into a vehicle at a business in the 400 block of West 9th Street. As an officer arrived to the area to investigate, Woodyard’s white Chevy truck left at a high rate of speed towards Poplar Street. Woodyard was stopped in the 800 block of Poplar Street. Officers then learned that Woodyard was not breaking into vehicles but instead having an argument with a girlfriend who was seated in another vehicle. As officers spoke to Woodyard they developed a suspicion that Woodyard was under the influence of alcohol. Woodyard was later placed under arrest for DUI and transported to the Wabash County Jail for processing. Afterward, Woodyard was released with a court date.

Violating Order Of Protection Lands Fort Branch Man In Jail

On 3/3/21, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Phillip R. Perkins, age 47, of Fort Branch, Indiana, for Violation of an Order of Protection Warrant out of Wabash County. Perkins was located at a residence in the 600 block of Cedar Street where he was taken into custody. Perkins was taken to the Wabash County Jail, issued the warrant, and held on a $500 cash bond.

Mt. Carmel Man Picked Up On FTA Warrant

On 3/3/21, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Jeffery A. Wright, age 62, of Mt. Carmel, on a Failure to Appear Warrant in reference to an Order of Protection violation out of Wabash County. Wright was stopped in the 100 block of West 5th Street and taken into custody. Wright was taken to the Mt. Carmel Police Department where he was issued the warrant and released with a court date.
