Important Meeting Slated For Tuesday At WGH

Turner told board members their attendance at the 9:30am meeting is important.

The $14.5 million project includes construction of a two-story, 32,000 square foot medical office building that consolidates several physician offices into one building located adjacent to the hospital and provides the setting for a comfortable, modern delivery of oncology services. The medical office building also provides space for staff offices, conference and training rooms, and a staff lounge. Construction is expected to begin this summer with an anticipated completion date of summer 2021.

WVC accepting graduation applications for Spring and Summer semesters

Wabash Valley College is now accepting applications for graduation from those students seeking a degree or certificate from WVC for Spring or Summer 2020. Students seeking to graduate and have their name printed in the Commencement program must complete an application by the priority date, Mar. 16.

Those students who are interested in graduating should pick up an application from Student Services, make an appointment with their academic advisor and submit their signed completed application with the required payment— $30 for a student’s first degree or certificate and $10 for each additional degree/certificate; additional fees may apply for honors.

Students should set up their appointment for graduation evaluation as these evaluations are already in progress.

WVC to honor scholarship recipients at Commencement

Wabash Valley College will be honoring scholarship recipients at the Commencement ceremony on Friday, May 8. Students must apply in order to qualify for consideration for the scholarships. Applications are due on Friday, Mar. 27.

WVC will be honoring the recipients of the following scholarships: The Robert and Norma Bethards Scholarship, The Alma Belle Hill Scholarship, The Walter F. Holland, Jr. Scholarship, The Charles S. Tate Scholarship and the James T. Watson Scholarship.

Litany Of Charges Faces Mt. Carmel Man

On 03.08.2020 the Wabash County Sheriff's Office stopped a white pickup truck at the intersection of Friendsville Ave. and Highway 11. The driver, 51 year old Charles E. McMahel of Mt. Carmel was advised he was being stopped due to not having a valid driver's license. (McMahel had been arrested for the same offense on 11/22/19) McMahel presented the deputy with sovereign citizen paperwork and advised him he was not going to get out of the car. The deputy advised McMahel he was under arrest for driving revoked and McMahel still refused. The deputy attempted to convince McMahel to get out without success. McMahel's window was breached and he drove off. The deputy pursued Mr. McMahel to his residence on N 19oo Blvd. where he was ultimately taken into custody. The Mt. Carmel Police Department and Illinois State Police assisted in the incident. McMahel is currently in the Wabash County Jail awaiting an appearance  before a judge for his bond to be set. McMahel faces a host of charges in the incident:

Resisting a peace officer, Criminal Damage to Gov. Supported Property, Obstructing  Justice, Escape, along with several traffic citations.

Bellmont Man Arrested For Allegedly Violating OP

On March 6th, 2020 the Wabash County Sheriff's Office arrested Nathan S. Sales, 31 of Bellmont for violation of order of protection. Sales is accused of contacting a person who was granted an emergency order of protection against him. Sales was taken into custody at 8:23 p.m. at the Bellmont Park. Sales was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he posted $2,000 cash bond on 03.09.2020.

Domestic Dispute Ends With Arrest Of Mt. Carmel Woman

On 3/02/20 Mt. Carmel Police arrested Pamela L. Weiss, age 60, of Mt. Carmel, for Domestic Battery following a domestic dispute at a residence in the 1100 block of Poplar Street.  Once officers investigated the complaint and found evidence Weiss had battered a family member she was placed under arrest.  Weiss was transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was charged and held pending a bond setting by a judge.

Mt. Carmel Man Arrested On Warrant For Possession Of Another's Debit Card

On 3/03/20 Mt. Carmel Police arrested Austin M. Knust, age 21, of Mt. Carmel, on a Wabash County Warrant for Possession of Another’s Debit Card.  Knust was observed operating a vehicle and stopped in the 400 block of Poplar Street.  Knust was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was issued the warrant and held on a $500 cash bond.

Traffic Stop Results In Arrest Of Mt. Carmel Woman

On 3/05/20 Mt. Carmel Police arrested Tammy R. Weir, age 52, of Mt. Carmel, for Driving While License Suspended following a traffic stop in the 300 block of W 11th Street.  The arresting officer recognized Weir and knew her to have a suspended driver’s license.  Weir was placed under arrest and transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was charged and held pending the posting of bond.
