Litany Of Charges Faces Mt. Carmel Man

On 03.08.2020 the Wabash County Sheriff's Office stopped a white pickup truck at the intersection of Friendsville Ave. and Highway 11. The driver, 51 year old Charles E. McMahel of Mt. Carmel was advised he was being stopped due to not having a valid driver's license. (McMahel had been arrested for the same offense on 11/22/19) McMahel presented the deputy with sovereign citizen paperwork and advised him he was not going to get out of the car. The deputy advised McMahel he was under arrest for driving revoked and McMahel still refused. The deputy attempted to convince McMahel to get out without success. McMahel's window was breached and he drove off. The deputy pursued Mr. McMahel to his residence on N 19oo Blvd. where he was ultimately taken into custody. The Mt. Carmel Police Department and Illinois State Police assisted in the incident. McMahel is currently in the Wabash County Jail awaiting an appearance  before a judge for his bond to be set. McMahel faces a host of charges in the incident:

Resisting a peace officer, Criminal Damage to Gov. Supported Property, Obstructing  Justice, Escape, along with several traffic citations.
