School Disaster Drill Next Week At MCHS

On November 16, 2018, there will be a school disaster drill taking place at the Mt. Carmel High School.  The scenario will start shortly after students have been released for the day.  On that day the students will be releasing at noon with the scenario starting around 12:30. 

The Mt. Carmel Police, the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office, District 348 employees, Mt. Carmel Fire, WEMA, Wabash General Hospital, and the Illinois State Police will be participating in this drill.  It is expected that the area around the Mt. Carmel High School will be congested and motorists are encouraged to avoid the area around this time period.  The scenario is expected to last approximately 3 hours.

Two-Vehicle Crash Claims the Life of Haubstadt Woman

Gibson County – At approximately 10:04 this morning a two vehicle crash on US 41 at C.R. 100 West claimed the life of a Haubstadt woman.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Thomas Lee Sowders, 65, of Owensboro, KY, was driving a 2004 Peterbilt tractor-trailer northwest on US 41 approaching C.R. 100 West. Elena Williams, 45, of Haubstadt, was driving her 2005 Toyota Corolla south on C.R. 100 West when she pulled into the path of the semi. After impact, the Toyota Corolla came to a final rest in the median. The semi came to a final rest in the passing lane north of the intersection.

Williams was transported to Gibson General Hospital in Princeton where she died from her injuries. Sowders was taken to Deaconess Gateway where he is currently being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

At this time, investigating troopers are unable to determine which driver had the green traffic light.

The investigation is on-going.

CERTIFIED NURSE AIDE CLASS OFFERED SPRING SEMESTER AT WVC

Individuals interested in employment as a Certified Nurse Aide should inquire now about a class being offered during the Spring Semester. Spring CNA class will start on January 7, 2019 at Wabash Valley College. The Certified Nurse Aide class will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:00 – 5:15 p.m. in the Science Building Room 58, from January 7, 2019 through April 17, 2019. Pre-registration is required.

District #348 Students Participate in IMEA Jazz and Elementary Festival

On Monday, November 5th, several Wabash 348 students participated in the Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) District 5 Jazz and Elementary Music Festival. The event was held on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL.  Students were selected for this honor by audition. Three band students (directed by Ellen Wall) were selected to be in the ILMEA Jr. High Jazz Band. They were Abigail May (trumpet), Eli Sherman (trombone), and Jacob Wall (electric bass). Eli Sherman was also selected as an improv soloist at the concert.
