Long Weekend Coming For Local Students

There will be no school for students in Allendale, St. Mary’s, and Wabash District #348 schools on Monday, October 8th because of the Columbus Day holiday.

There will be no school for St. Mary’s School students on Friday, October 5th because of a teacher’s convention.

There will be no school for Wabash District #348 and Allendale students on Friday, October 12th because of a teacher’s institute day.

St. Mary’s will have school on Friday, October 12th, however there will be no buses running that day.

WVC TO HOST FINANCIAL AID SPOTLIGHT NIGHT

Wabash Valley College will host a Financial Aid Spotlight Night on October 17, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in Main Hall, Room 205 (second floor). In its commitment to helping students and parents “make sense” of what financial resources are available, WVC is pleased to offer this opportunity for all interested students and parents.

Financial Aid personnel will assist families in completing the 2019-2020 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Please bring the following: Student and Parent 2017 Income Tax Returns, W-2 forms, and Social Security cards.

County Treasurer Updates Commissioners On Property Taxes

You should have received your property tax bill in the mail by now. They went out on September 25, according to Wabash County Treasurer Beverly McBride. The first installment is due October 26th, the second on November 30th. McBride told county commissioners Monday that a total of 10,939 bills were mailed out at an approximate cost of 20-cents each. A total of 11-million dollars ($10,997,699) was extended this year. Just over 668-thousand dollars ($668, 187.51) has already been collected, McBride said.

Man Arrested For Violating Order Of Protection

On 10/01/18 Mount Carmel Police arrested Christopher R. Cochrane, age 46, of Mount Carmel, for Violation of an Order of Protection following a 911 abandoned call to the apartments at 214 N Walnut Street.  Once the officers arrived they found that Cochrane and his wife had been in a domestic dispute.  Officers also learned that Cochrane had an Order of Protection against him protecting the wife from contact.  Cochrane was placed under arrest for Violation of an Order of Protection and transported to the Wabash County Jail.  Cochrane is being held pending a bond setting by a judge

St. Francisville Man Picked Up By MCPD On Knox County FTA Warrant

On Monday, Mount Carmel Police arrested Lester L. Glenn, age 67, of St. Francisville, IL for a Knox County Indiana Failure to Appear Warrant.  Officers were dispatched to outer North Cherry Street to check on a male subject, found to be Lester Glenn, walking north on Cherry Street.  Glenn returned with the warrant and was placed under arrest.  Glenn was taken to the Wabash County Jail pending extradition back to Knox County Indiana.

Woman Arrested For Domestic Battery

On Sunday Mount Carmel Police arrested Kaleigh C. Singer, age 26, of Mount Carmel, for Domestic Battery.  Officers were investigating an unrelated incident at the apartments located at 1230 N Walnut Street when they observed Singer commit a battery to her boyfriend during an argument.  Officers investigated the incident further which led to the arrest of Singer.  Singer was transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was charged and held pending a bond setting by a judge.

Two Grayville Residents Arrested After Playing Music Loudly Behind MCPD

On Sunday, Mount Carmel Police arrested Skyler N. Johnston, age 24, and Seth U. Perry, age 31, both of Grayville, IL for Possession of Methamphetamine.  Johnston was also charged with Driving While License Suspended and Perry for a Wabash County Failure to Appear Warrant. 

The arrests stem from officers checking on a vehicle parked behind the police department playing loud music.  The arresting officer made contact to find out why the subjects were parked in the rear parking area of the police department playing music excessively loud. 

The subjects stated they were waiting on a friend who was visiting an inmate in the Wabash County Jail.  While doing so the officer discovered one of the subjects in the vehicle, a white Chevy Impala, had a warrant for his arrest (Perry).  Perry was placed under arrest at this time.

  The officer then checked the seating area where Perry was located and found a container of suspected methamphetamine.  By this time the subject at the jail had finished her visit and exited.  Contact was made with her and she was identified as Skyler Johnston.  Johnston was found to have a suspended license and admitted she drove to the jail after being questioned.  Johnston was placed under arrest and taken to the jail at this time. 

At the jail Johnston was found to have a bag of suspected methamphetamine on her person as well.  Both were charged with the above stated offenses and were held pending a bond setting by a judge.

Mt. Carmel Man Charged With Battering Girlfriend

On 9/27/18 Mount Carmel Police arrested Brandon L. Garrett, age 25, of Mount Carmel, for Domestic Battery following a complaint about a domestic dispute in the area of 9th & Plum Street.  Officers arrived to the area and found that Garrett and his girlfriend were the involved parties.  Officers spoke to several witnesses who reported seeing Garrett batter the girlfriend.  Garrett was placed under and transported to the Wabash County Jail.  Garrett was held until bond was set by a judge.

Two Arrested For Domestic Battery In Connection To Southview Drive Incident

On 9/26/18 Mount Carmel Police arrested Jeffery B. Sutton, age 51, and a male juvenile relative for domestic battery following a complaint about an ongoing domestic dispute at a residence in the 100 block of Southview Drive.  Officers arrived on scene and investigated the complaint.  Officers found evidence to indicate both Sutton and the male juvenile had battered each other so both were placed under arrest.  Sutton was held pending a bond setting by a judge while the juvenile was charged and released to a family member.

Mt. Carmel Man Arrested On Domestic Battery Charge

On 9/27/18 Mount Carmel Police arrested Ramiro Xoca-Xolo, age 34, of Mount Carmel, for Domestic Battery following an incident at a residence in the 100 block of E 2nd Street.  Police were called to this residence to investigate a domestic dispute.  Once officers investigated the complaint they placed Xoca-Xolo under arrest for battering another resident inside the home.  Xoca-Xolo was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged and held pending a bond setting by a judge.
