On 9/01/18 Mt. Carmel Police arrested Valerie C. Schrader, age 38, of Mt. Carmel for Criminal Trespass to Property and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Police were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of Plum Street in reference to a trespassing complaint. Once there officers spoke to the complainant, along with witnesses, and found that Schrader had trespassed at the residence in question. Schrader was later located and placed under arrest. During the arrest Schrader was found to have a glass pipe, containing suspected drug residue, inside her vehicle. Schrader was transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was charged and held pending a bond setting by a judge.
Probation Violation Lands Mt. Carmel Man In Jail
On 9/01/18 Mt. Carmel Police arrested Brett A. Bethe, age 32, of Mt. Carmel on a Wabash County Warrant for Probation Violation. Bethe was observed in the 100 block of East 9th Street where he was taken into custody. Bethe was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged and held pending the bond posting of a $1000 cash bond.
Traffic Stop Leads To FTA Arrest
On 9/01/18 Mt. Carmel Police arrested Joshua J.P. Wirth, age 22, of Mt. Carmel on a Wabash County Failure to Appear Warrant for his arrest. Wirth was observed as a passenger in a vehicle near 9th & Oak Street. A traffic stop was conducted and Wirth was placed under arrest. During the arrest officers located suspected synthetic cannabis and a smoking pipe on his person. Wirth was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was served the warrant and charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Wirth was held pending the bond posting of $350 cash bond.
Man Arrested For Driving Drunk Following Crash On College Drive
On 9/02/18 Mt. Carmel Police arrested Dakota B. Campbell, age 24, for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol following a traffic crash report on College Drive near the Washington Avenue intersection. Officers found that the driver, Dakota Campbell, showed signs of impairment due to alcohol consumption so field sobriety testing was conducted. Clues to indicate impairment were observed by the officer and Campbell was placed under arrest at this time. Campbell was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged and held pending the posting of a $100 cash bond.
Mt. Carmel Man Arrested For DUI Drugs
On 9/02/18 Mt. Carmel Police arrested Bryan M. Potter, age 27, of Mt. Carmel, for Driving Under the Influence of Drugs and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Police received a public complaint regarding a reckless driver coming into Mt. Carmel from Indiana. The arresting officer located the suspect vehicle, a gold Ford truck, coming into Mt. Carmel on Walnut Street. The officer observed the vehicle commit several traffic lane violations so a traffic stop was made and Potter was found to be the driver. The officer suspected impairment on drugs so field sobriety testing was conducted. Clues to indicate impairment were observed and Potter was placed under arrest. The officer also located a smoking pipe used to ingest drugs inside of the vehicle as well. Potter was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged and held pending the posting of a $300 cash bond.
Mt. Carmel Man Arrested On Warrants
On 9/02/18 Mt. Carmel Police responded to a domestic disturbance complaint at a residence in the 1000 block of West 6th Street. While investigating the complaint it was discovered that one of the involved parties, Michael T. Walker, age 38, of Mt. Carmel, had two active warrants for his arrest. One warrant was out of White County IL for Driving While Intoxicated and the other out of Edwards County IL for Domestic Battery. Walker was placed under arrest and transported to the Wabash County Jail. Walker was held pending the posting of a total of $750 cash bond.
Physical Altercation Leads To Arrest
On 9/03/18 Mt. Carmel Police arrested Zachary A. Mathis, age 27, of Mt. Carmel, for Disorderly Conduct following an incident in the alley of the 600 block of Vine Street. It was alleged that Mathis attempted to start a physical altercation with three subjects at a nearby residence. After speaking to witnesses, a complaint was signed against Mathis for Disorderly Conduct and he was placed under arrest. Mathis was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged and held pending the posting of bond.
FTA Warrant Leads To Arrest
On 9/06/18 Mt. Carmel Police arrested Christopher R. Shelby, age 39, of Mt. Carmel, on a Wabash County Failure to Appear Warrant for Felony Theft. Shelby was located in an apartment at 1230 North Walnut Street. Shelby was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was served the warrant and held on a $2000 cash bond.
Woman Picked Up For Driving While Suspended
On 9/06/18 Mt. Carmel Police arrested Loretta L. Staley, age 49, of Mt. Carmel, for Driving While License Suspended following a traffic stop in the 1100 block of West 3rd Street. Staley was placed under arrest and transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was charged and held pending the posting of $150 cash bond.

Wabash County has been trying unsuccessfully to fill the truancy officer position for weeks now, so county commissioners have decided to utilize the Regional Office of Education’s officer instead. Both operate the officer simultaneously. The ROE position is funded through a grant. Commissioners say they are aware that if that grant would ever end, the county would have to fill that position.

The barricades are up on County Road 650-East south of Keensburg. The road is now closed. I-DOT had plans to replace the bridge in 2019, so now Highway Engineer Dustin Bunting is hopeful Springfield can speed things up. In addition, county crews plan to re-shoot the south bound lane of County Road 3. Then, the oiling program can continue elsewhere in the county, according to Bunting.

Wabash County took in the most money ever for real estate tax prepayments this year. Some $243, 747 was received by Treasurer Beverly McBride before the deadline of August 31st. On a related tax note, 89-percent of this year’s mobile home taxes have been received, leaving only $3,468 on 55 parcels yet to be collected, according to McBride. The late fee will go up to $75 this week.

Sheriff Derek Morgan told the county board Tuesday that his office worked 215 incidents during the month of August. Officers issued 32 warrants and 47 summons during the month.
