County Board Makes Several Appointments

Several appointments to various boards was approved Monday by the Wabash County Board. Nelson Reiber, James Johnson, Robert Winter and John Hughes will serve six-year terms on the Allendale Cemetery Board; Carolyn J. Peach and Kalie Naas were OK’d for three-year terms on the Board of Health; James Litherland was approved for a three-year term on the 3-77 Board; Sharon Majors gets a three-year term on the Hallock Cemetery Board, and Claudia Dant will serve a five-year term on the Museum District.

Catt Back In Court On Criminal Sexual Abuse Charges

20 year old William L. Catt of Mt. Carmel was back in court today to hearings on two sexual abuses cases. Catt was arrested in March on a charge of criminal sexual abuse after he was found in the bedroom of a 15 year old girl on Walnut Street. He has pled not guilty to the charge and today, a jury trial of October 1st was set. Catt has pled guilty to a separate 2017 charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse between the ages of 13 and 17. Sentencing has been delayed in the case now for a fourth time with a status hearing now set for August 14th. Catt remains held without bond in the Wabash County Jail.

INDOT To Conduct Night Time Paving On I-69 Section 5

Night time paving operations will begin in the southern section of the I-69 Section 5 construction zone tonight and will continue for the next 10 nights, weather permitting.

Crews will be placing surface pavement on both mainline and on and off ramps from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists will encounter intermittent closures of some ramps as the paving crews make the final connections to SR 37.  Paving work is anticipated to begin in the south and move north. Interchanges that will be affected include Fullerton Pike, Tapp Road, 2nd Street (SR 45) and 3rd Street (SR 48).

Law enforcement will be on site to assist with traffic control and ramp closures.  Motorists are urged to pay attention to changing traffic conditions and potential ramp closures during the overnight paving operations.  Only one interchange at a time will be impacted.

All construction activity is weather dependent and the schedule is subject to change.

Mt. Carmel Man Picked Up On Warrants

06/04/2018-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 23 year old Austin J. Comer of Mt. Carmel after the vehicle he was in was stopped by Mt. Carmel Police.  Austin was arrested on a Wabash County failure to appear warrant, a failure to appear warrant for possession of cannabis out of Jasper County, and a manufacture and delivery of cannabis warrant out of Richland County.  Comer is being held pending the posting of bond on all three warrants.

Lying To Police Lands Albion Woman In Jail

Mt. Carmel Police arrested 20 year old Autumn R. Mays of Albion.  An officer on patrol observed two male subjects he thought were in an argument behind a home in the 900 block of Walnut Street.  Mays was at the residence and when police asked for her information, it is alleged she provided the arresting officer with a false name.  Mays would later tell police she lied because she had warrants out of Edwards County.  Police transported her to the Wabash County Jail where she was charged with obstruction of justice and she was served two warrants out of Edwards County.
