Edwards County Fugitive Caught

FUGITIVE CAUGHT:

On the morning of Friday December 22, 2017 Nathan W. Ellison 28 of 108 S Albion St. West Salem was arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff's Dept. On a nation wide felony warrant out of Edwards County charging him with failure to register as a sex offender.

Ellison was found hiding at a residence in Mt. Erie. Personnel with the Edwards County Sheriff's Dept received several tips as to Ellison's whereabouts. Edwards County personnel were finally able to come up with an address and passed that along to Wayne County Authorities. Wayne County Authorities were able to find Ellison at the address and arrested him. Ellison had been a fugitive since the first part of Oct of this year when he failed to show up in Edwards County Circuit Court to a sentencing hearing. Ellison was subsequently sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections in his absence for a term of 6 yrs. Ellison was taken to the Wayne County Jail by Wayne County Authorities, and held for Edwards County. A short time later the Edwards County Sheriff Dept. took custody of Ellison and transported him to the White County Jail in Carmi where he awaits a court appearance and transport to the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Glick's Home Invasion Trial Postponed

A 31-year-old Mt. Carmel man charged in connection to a September shooting in Bellmont was back in court this week. Levi Glick faces two Class X felony counts of home invasion with a firearm along with a Class 3 felony count of possession of a firearm by a felon. During the Monday court appearance, Glick had his jury trial delayed from January 8th to March 5th upon a motion from state’s attorney Cassandra Goldman. Pretrial conferences in the case are set for January 22nd and February 21st. Previously, Glick entered a not guilty plea to the charges. During that September 21st altercation, Glick sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh while another person was shot in the foot. A preliminary charge of attempted murder was never formally filed against Glick. Glick is being held on $1 million bond.

Shaffer Sent To DOC For 3 Years

A Robinson man who was one of the people arrested in a shooting in Bellmont in September has been sentenced to three years in prison on separate drug charges. 33-year-old Christopher Shaffer was arrested by Mt. Carmel Police for possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, and a Lawrence County warrant for unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. He was arrested after officers were dispatched to the 13-00 block of Cherry Street for a report of an unwanted person. When police arrived, Shaffer was found in a vehicle behind the residence. He was first arrested on the outstanding warrant and then charged with the drug offenses after the vehicle was searched.

Allendale School Board Notes

At the December 2017 Allendale School Board meeting held at the main office of Allendale School, the board:

Had discussion on the progression of Health/Life/Safety projects with district architect, Ed Kerkover.

Adopted the 2017 Tax Levy with an aggregate increase of 4.99%.

Each member received a document to begin the Superintendent Evaluation process, which will be gathered and presented next month.

Held a discussion concerning the open competition for the FY19 Pre-K Grant.  The Superintendent will send a proposal to the Illinois State Board of Education to compete for the FY19 Pre-K Grant.

Approved to not rent any part of the building and grounds to individuals.

Approved Aly Mae Images as the producer of the school yearbook starting this year.

Keensburg Woman Charged With Firing Handgun Into The Air

On 12/21/17 at 19:36 hours the Wabash County Sheriff's Office responded to 9458 Market St. in Keensburg reference a complaint of shots fired.  It was reported that a female at the residence had been outside her residence shooting a firearm.  Upon making contact with Pamela J. Warren at the residence it was determined that Warren had in fact been shooting a .41 caliber handgun into the air. Warren had been arguing on and off throughout the evening with family. Warren was taken into custody without incident and charged with : 

  • Reckless Discharge of a Firearm

After an initial court appearance in Wabash County Circuit court today bond was set at $500 cash by Judge Jerry Crisel.  Warren posted bond and was released, alcohol is suspected as a factor in the incident.

Mt. Carmel Man Arrested For Domestic Battery

On 12/17/17  at 1211 hours the Wabash County Sheriff's Office responded to 9348 Wabash 17 Ave. Mt. Carmel reference a report of domestic situation.  Once on scene the deputy determined that the couple had been arguing on and off throughout the evening prior to the incident over substance abuse issues.  The male identified as Frank E. Shoultz 41, Mt. Carmel reportedly struck the female in the back of the head during the altercation.  Shoultz then exited the residence and was locked out by his victim.  Shoultz then reportedly kicked in the rear door of the residence. 

Shoultz was placed under arrest for domestic battery and taken to the Wabash County Jail.  Shoultz bond has been set at $1000 cash and remain in the Wabash County jail.

Another Gibson County Truck Stop Gun Incident Lands Driver In Jail

On December 21, 2017, at 4:03 p.m. Gibson County Central Dispatch received a 911 report of a disturbance at the Love’s Truck Stop located at 901 E. 1250 South. Upon arriving on scene officers from the Fort Branch Police Department, Haubstadt Police Department, and Gibson County Sheriff’s Office located the disturbance and began a roadside investigation.

During the investigation Deputy Jennifer Loesch learned that the disturbance began at the semi truck fuel island and involved two truck drivers. During the investigation it is alleged that dispute escalated to the point that 46 year old Douglas Arnold of Carlisle, Indiana pulled a handgun and pointed it at the other party.

At the conclusion of her investigation Deputy Loesch placed Mr. Arnold into custody and transported him to the Gibson County Jail where he was charged with Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon. He remains in custody on a $750 bond.

It's the second incident in a week at a Gibson County truck stop that a driver was arrested after pulling a gun.

Traffic Stop Nets Meth, Heroin and 4 Loaded Handguns, One Handgun Reported Stolen

Dubois County – Last night at approximately 8:10, Trooper Nathaniel Kern was patrolling in the area of Holland when he observed the driver of a 1998 Mercedes disregard the stop sign at Kentucky Street and SR 161. The vehicle was stopped on SR 161 north of CR 1150 South. The driver was identified as Tiffany Reed, 29, of Jasper.  The front seat passenger was identified as Michael Gross, 42, of Santa Claus. Due to suspicious circumstances Trooper Kern requested assistance from Dubois County Deputy Monarrez and his K-9, Karma. After arriving the K-9 walked around the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics. When officers searched the vehicle they discovered several loaded handguns, 27 grams of methamphetamine and a small amount of heroin.

 Weapons Seized:

  • Star 9 mm handgun with one round in the chamber and five rounds in the magazine
  • Uzi .22 caliber handgun with a live round in the chamber and 18 rounds in the magazine
  • Springfield Armory .45 caliber handgun with seven rounds
  • Kimber .380 caliber handgun with five rounds

Further investigation revealed the Kimber .380 handgun was reported stolen out of Vanderburgh County. Troopers also discovered Reed and Gross did not have a license to carry a handgun. They were both arrested and taken to the Dubois County Jail where they later posted bond and were released.

  • Michael Gross, 42, Santa Claus
  1. Possession of Methamphetamine, Level 4 Felony
  2. Possession of Narcotic Drug, Level 6 Felony
  3. Carrying a Handgun without a License, Class A Misdemeanor Gross was also charged with Theft, a Level 6 Felony, for the alleged stolen Kimber .380 handgun.

WGH Board Elects 2018 Officers

The Wabash General Hospital Board of Directors has elected some officers for 2018, but due to a resignation one spot remains open. Brad Seaton has resigned his position and his vice-chairmanship on the hospital board after 5 years.

During their meeting Tuesday night, Bill Easton was re-elected as board chairman, Janet Storey was re-elected treasurer, and Toni Brines was re-elected as board secretary. But, the vice-chairman position was left unfilled until the executive committee can meet to discuss the opening. It's hoped the position will be filled at the January board meeting. In other hospital board news, this week, the county board reappointed Brines and John Evans to 3 year terms. Applications to fill Seaton's spot on WGH board will be accepted soon according to Easton.

Disturbance call leads to arrest of Princeton man

On December 20, 2017, at 10:04 p.m. Gibson County Central Dispatch received a report of a disturbance in the 2300 block of West 100 North near Princeton, Indiana. Upon arriving Deputy Jennifer Loesch began an investigation into the disturbance with the assistance of Deputy U.B. Smith and Princeton Officer Brandt George. During their investigation 52 year old Andre Crowe of Princeton was taken into custody and transported to the Gibson County Jail. At the Gibson County Jail Deputy Loesch charged Mr. Crowe with Possession of Paraphernalia and Possession of Methamphetamines. He remains in custody on a $750 bond.
