Council Approves Street Closures For Chamber Days

Preparations are underway for this year's Wabash County Chamber Days celebration after the Mount Carmel City Council approved street closures for the annual event.

During Monday's city council meeting, Wabash County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lesley Hipsher requested permission to close portions of downtown streets for the carnival, which will be held August 12th through the 15th.

Hipsher told the council the Chamber is requesting the same street closures used in recent years, with the closure beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, August 10. The closure will extend from the 3rd Street intersection to 5th Street, although traffic will still be allowed through the 5th Street intersection.

Because Chamber Days will coincide with the start of the school year, city officials discussed the need to accommodate school bus routes. Hipsher said District 348 Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer has already been involved in planning and is aware of the traffic changes.

The council unanimously approved the requested street closures, clearing the way for final preparations for one of Mount Carmel's biggest annual community celebrations.
