Jury Still Being Sought In Case Of Wisconsin Man

Jury selection continues past the 5 o'clock hour this evening in Wabash County Circuit Court in the trial of a Wisconsin man charged with multiple child sex offenses.

The jury selection process began this morning in the case against 45-year-old Joseph Sellers of Janesville, Wisconsin. Attorneys continued questioning prospective jurors throughout the day as they worked to seat a jury for the trial.

Sellers faces four Class X felony charges, including two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

According to court records, the charges stem from allegations involving incidents that reportedly occurred between September 1997 and October 2000. Prosecutors allege Sellers sexually abused a 7-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy during that time.

The case was originally filed in 2021. During a preliminary hearing that year, probable cause was found, and Sellers waived formal arraignment before entering a not guilty plea to all charges.

Sellers was arrested in April 2021 and later released after posting a $12,500 cash bond.

Class X felonies are among the most serious offenses under Illinois law and carry lengthy prison sentences upon conviction.

The trial is expected to continue through the remainder of the week in Wabash County Circuit Court.
