County Board Holds Brief Election Eve Meeting

The Wabash County Commissioners handled several routine business items during a brief meeting Monday afternoon ahead of Tuesday’s election. The board traditionally keeps its Election Eve meeting abbreviated.

Commissioners approved a $2,500 commitment to the Area Economic Alliance, which had requested $3,000. Commissioner Rob Dean, participating remotely, proposed the lower amount, citing the county’s other commitments. Scott West seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.

The board also approved two annual motor fuel tax resolutions presented by Highway Engineer Dustin Bunting. One covers his salary and expenses under his contract, while the other supports the county’s maintenance program.

Commissioners authorized State’s Attorney Kelli Storckman to sign documents for an additional opioid settlement, following her review and recommendation.

Board Chairman Tim Hocking reported no new updates on surplus property or the county budget.

Commissioners approved the county’s claims before adjourning.
