Traffic Stop Results In Drug Charges For Fort Branch Man

 On 5/21/23, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Matthew J. Cardinal, age 38, of Fort Branch, Indiana for Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Driving While License Suspended following a traffic stop in the 1500 block of North Cherry Street.  The arresting officer observed Cardinal operating a Chevrolet Trailblazer and knew him to have a suspended license resulting in the traffic stop.  During the stop, Ofc. Hopper and his K-9 Eleven conducted a free air narcotics sniff around the Trailblazer at which time Eleven alerted to the presence of narcotics.  A search of Cardinal lead to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine and a glass smoking device on his person.  Cardinal was placed under arrest and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged accordingly and held pending a bond setting by a judge.
