Supreme Court Justice To Swear In New City Council

An Illinois Supreme Court justice will be in Mt. Carmel next month to swear in the new city council and mayor to new terms. On May 1st, Justice David Overstreet will administer the oaths of office on May 1st to commissioners Susan Zimmerman, Tom Meeks, Eric Ikemire, and Tyson Meador and Mayor Joe Judge to four-year terms. It’s the first time a Supreme Court justice has sworn in Mt. Carmel office holders.

And with the seating of the new council, it looks like there may be a shuffling of supervision among the commissioners. The reward for being the top vote getter in this month’s election is having first choice on which department the commissioners will be in charge of. That honor went to Susan Zimmerman who told us on election night she will remain as fire and garbage commissioner.  On Friday’s “Ask The Mayor” segment, Joe Judge said current street commissioner Tom Meeks will assume Justin Dulgar’s role as water and sewer commissioner and incoming commissioner Tyson Meador will take over for Meeks as street commissioner. Ikemire will remain finance commissioner.
