Pedestrian Injured After Being Struck At 5th & Pear

On 12/11/23 at 3:26pm, Mt. Carmel Police responded to a vehicle collision involving a motor vehicle versus a pedestrian.  Officers arrived on scene along with the Wabash General Ambulance Service and the Mt. Carmel Fire Department.  An investigation into the cause found that a 13-year-old female was crossing 5th Street on Pear Street northbound when a white Ford, driven by Kristina E. Kelsey, age 44, of Mt. Carmel struck the female as Kelsey traveled west on 5th Street.  Further investigation found that the Ford struck the pedestrian on the front bumper/grill area of the vehicle.  The pedestrian was transported to the Wabash General Hospital and later air lifted by helicopter to an Evansville hospital.  The pedestrian was later released with non-life-threatening injuries to her head, hip and ankle areas.  Kelsey was issued a citation for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
