From Mt. Carmel Police Chief Mike McWilliams:
Today at 10:42am, Mt. Carmel Police were dispatched to the Wabash General Hospital regarding a suspicious phone call they received. While the call was non-threatening to the staff and patients, the call was concerning which resulted in a soft lock down of the facility. Out of an abundance of caution, the District 348 School District, among others, were notified of the soft lock down while the call was further scrutinized. MCPD and WGH staff determined other area hospitals had received similar unsubstantiated calls recently, thus diminishing concerns leading to the removal of the soft lock downs.
Wabash General Hospital and the Mt. Carmel Police Department takes any potential threats seriously and strives to keep everyone safe until they can be investigated thoroughly. MCPD was also assisted by the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office.
