Stage Set For Big Night At Renovated Riverview Stadium

It’s perhaps one of the most highly anticipated opening nights in the long history of Riverview Stadium. Tonight, the Golden Aces will host Lawrenceville in a Little Illini Conference that is actually taking a back seat to a lot of other things going on surrounding the game. The partially renovated stadium will host its’ first event since a $4 million face lift began in May. The crown jewel of the renovation is a new turf field that will now host soccer matches along with future marching band competitions. The new 8 lane track will allow MCHS to host postseason and conference track meets. The Aces football team has been practicing on the new turf and coach Michael Brewer is impressed…

With the renovated stadium, District #3-48 Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer said the artificial turf will save the district money from the mowing, striping, and upkeep of the field and that will free up custodians to spend more time in the building.A dedication ceremony will be held on the field this evening at 6:30. A ceremony we’ll carry live on WSJD as part of our pre-game coverage.

The second component of the excitement centers around all of the 2022 homecoming festivities this weekend. The queen will be crowned tonight at halftime. The senior queen candidates are Ava Harrington, Madelyn Young, Eden Wankel (Wahn-kul), and Kammy McWilliams. The Freshman Attendant is Jayla Johnson, while the  Sophomore Attendant is Audrey Broster, and the Junior Attendant is Kathryn Blake. Other homecoming events this weekend include the Alumni Uptown gathering today at Merchants Park, the parade that will leave the high school at 3:30 this afternoon; then tomorrow highlights include the alumni golf tournament, and the all school alumni social hour and dance at the reunion.
