Clay City Woman & Girl Killed In Friday Crash

ISP FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH ALERT

 

WHAT:                        Two Vehicle Fatal Traffic Crash

                                               

WHERE:                     Intersection of US Route 45 and 2200 North, Wayne County

 

WHEN:                       July 22, 2022 at approximately 3:30 p.m.

                                   

VEHICLES:                Unit 1- 2010 Black Chrysler Van

                                    Unit 2- 2020 Gray Volvo Truck-Tractor Semi-Trailer Combination

 

DRIVERS:                   Unit 1- Olivia Flexter, 22-year-old female from Clay City, IL – Flown to a regional hospital with life-threatening injuries.

                                    Unit 2- Patrick Gaboury, 29-year-old male from Clinton, IA

 

PASSENGERS:           Unit 1- Evelyn Flexter, 61-year-old female from Clay City, IL – Deceased

                                    Unit 1- 8-year-old female from Clay City, IL - Deceased

                                    Unit 1- 3-year-old male from Clay City, IL – Flown to a regional hospital with life-threatening injuries.

                                    Unit 1- 4-year-old female from Clay City, IL – Flown to a regional hospital with life-threatening injuries.

 

PRELIMINARY:        Preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling south on US Route 45 near 2200 North in Wayne County. Unit 2 was traveling north at the same location. The driver of Unit 1 attempted to turn east onto 2200 North, in front of Unit 2. Unit 2 struck Unit 1 and Unit 1 left the roadway to the east and struck a tree. A passenger in Unit 1 was pronounced deceased on scene. A juvenile passenger in Unit 1 was flown to a regional hospital and later pronounced deceased. The driver of Unit 1 and two passengers were flown to regional hospitals with life-threatening injuries. The driver of Unit 2 reported no injuries on scene. This crash is under investigation and no further information is available.

 

CHARGES:                 The driver of Unit 1 was cited for Failure to Yield Right of Way.
