City Purchasing Arts Center Buildings For $15,000

The Mt. Carmel City Council has approved buying the Little Egypt Arts Center at 500 and 502 Market Street from John Clancy for $15,000. The move at the council’s regular meeting this evening brings an end to a sometimes contentious battle with Clancy over the state of the buildings portions of which have been deemed unsafe. In addition to the $15,000 purchase price, the city will pay all closing costs, property taxes and associated fee. Mayor Joe Judge said the city plans to demolish the 502 Market Street portion of the Arts Center. As for the 500 Market Street building, Judge said the city will work to renovate the structure into a retail location. He said the city will be working with a local developer to accomplish the renovation. Clancy was in attendance at the meeting and accepted the proposal thanking the council for working with him on the property.
