Driving Too Fast In Winter Storm Causes I-70 Crash

ILLINOIS STATE POLICE TRAFFIC CRASH ALERT  

 

The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by

Illinois State Police District 12 

 

  

WHAT:                      Two Vehicle Personal Injury Traffic Crash  

  

WHERE:                   Interstate 70 eastbound approximately 7 miles east of Effingham, Effingham County

 

WHEN:                      Feb. 3, 2022 at approximately 9:51 a.m.

  

VEHICLE:                Unit 1Bronze 2016 Freightliner Truck Tractor Semi-Trailer

 

                                    Unit 2 – White 2012 Ford F-350

 

DRIVER:                   Unit 1 – Sahin Keles, 35-year-old male from Ballston Spa, NY

 

                                    Unit 2 – Shakhrukh Mukhamedyarov, 26-year-old male from Brooklyn, NY – Transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

                                   

PRELIMINARY:      A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling eastbound on Interstate 70 approximately seven miles east of Effingham. The driver of Unit 1 failed to slow down in hazardous road conditions and lost control of his vehicle. Unit 1 swerved off the roadway to the left, through the median, and struck Unit 2 head on in the westbound lanes.

 

CHARGES:               Unit 1 driver was cited for Driving Too Fast for Conditions.

 

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
