City Council Wraps Up Year With Major Purchases

At their final meeting of 2021, the Mt. Carmel City Council opened the checkbook and made several capital purchases. The council voted to spend almost $170,000 on a street sweeper to replace the current unit that is 33 years old and is in a constant state of disrepair. Mayor Joe Judge said the unit is different than the current model the city has used…

The council also voted to purchase a 2019 GMC Sierra pickup truck from Jeff Linson for $30,000 to be used for the public works department. The public works current vehicle, a Chevy Equinox, will go to the water and sewer department while their vehicle a Jeep Liberty will be placed in the next surplus auction. The third purchase by the city council was a 2015 Vactron vacuum excavator from Mt. Carmel Public Utility for $27,500. The unit will be helpful in jetting out sewer mains and lift stations.
