On 9/11/21 at 11:17 a.m., Mt. Carmel Police responded to a report of a single-vehicle accident at the intersection of South Cherry Street and Beauchamp Street. Upon police arrival, they found that a maroon 2003 Ford Taurus had collided with a large dirt mound on the south side of the intersection, went airborne, rolled over its passenger side, and came to rest on wheels sustaining significant damage. The driver, identified as Zachary R. Spruell, age 20, of Mt. Carmel, was found deceased due to apparent injuries from the vehicle crash. It appears the incident happened sometime overnight and was not discovered until the following day due to the location of the vehicle crash. Mt. Carmel Police were assisted by the Wabash County Coroner’s Office and the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office.
