On 5/1/21, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Matthew M. Berberich, age 37, of Bellmont, for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender and for Fleeing & Attempting to Elude a Police Officer following a traffic stop on outer West 3rd Street. Prior to the arrest, MCPD had become aware that Berberich was residing at a local motel instead of his registered residence in Bellmont. When officers attempted to stop Berberich, he fled in his maroon Chevy passenger car west on 3rd Street. Berberich later gave up and was taken into custody. Berberich was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged and held on a $1500 cash bond.
