Equality Woman Seriously Injured In Route 1 Crash

ISP INVESTIGATES TRAFFIC CRASH WITH INJURY

The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 19

WHAT:                         Two Unit Crash with Injury

WHERE:                   Illinois Route 1 at Peabody Road, Bowlesville Township, Gallatin County.

WHEN:                      May 16, 2021 at 4:59 p.m.

VEHICLE:                Unit 1 – Grey 2016 Toyota Camry

                                    Unit 2 – Red 2003 Ford Pickup Truck

DRIVER:                   Unit 1 – Jessica D. Jones, a 50-year-old female from Equality, IL – Airlifted to a regional hospital with serious injuries.

                                    Unit 2 – Kenneth M. Walters, a 66-year-old male from Elizabethtown IL – Uninjured.

PRELIMINARY:      Preliminary investigative details indicate the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling northbound on Illinois Route 1, approaching the intersection with Peabody Road, in Gallatin County. Unit 2 was traveling eastbound on Peabody Road.  As Unit 2 was crossing IL-1 at the intersection, Unit 1 failed to reduce its speed and struck Unit 2. The Unit 1 driver was airlifted to a regional hospital with serious injuries. The Unit 2 driver was uninjured. 

 

CHARGES:               The driver of Unit 1 was issued a citation for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.

 

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
