WVC’s FRESH receives two donations

Wabash Valley College’s FRESH food program received two donations from community partners over the past two weeks. On March 23, the WVC Faculty Association donated to FRESH, and on April 6, the Mount Carmel Elks Lodge donated to the program.

On Tuesday, March 23, the Wabash Valley College Faculty Association donated $350 to WVC FRESH. The association usually holds an annual faculty & staff BBQ lunch. Due to the pandemic, the lunch was cancelled, and the faculty voted to donate the money to FRESH.

Allen Brown, the coordinator of the annual faculty & staff BBQ lunch and Department of Mathematics faculty member said, "We hope our donation is just the beginning for faculty's support of FRESH. We want to contribute as an annual tradition. Jill Winter and Kyle Peach have helped the WVC Student Senate create this program, which has become an essential resource for our college."

On Tuesday, April 6, the Mount Carmel Elks donated $500 to the program.

FRESH’s mission is to assist and provide for those facing food insecurity on WVC's campus. The students running FRESH gather, store, and distribute goods to those who find themselves in need. FRESH’s mission is based on a compassionate hand out and hand up as we respect the dignity of each person we serve.

FRESH welcomes donations, including food items and money. Please contact Jill Winter or Kyle Peach at WVC for details. They can be reached by phone at 618-262-8641.
