The city has gotten the first go ahead from the state EPA on building a new water treatment plant. Water Commissioner Justin Dulgar reports that the EPA has approved the project plan which is the first initial stage of the $10.4 million plant that will be built on the site of the current facility on South Cherry Street that was built in 1936. Now, Dulgar said the city is waiting on the letter of commitment from the IEPA after which bids will be sought for the new facility, set to open in 2023.
