The Wabash County treasurer’s office is a busy place this week as Friday’s deadline quickly approaches to pay the installment of property taxes. Treasurer Beverly McBride reported to county commissioners this week that as of Monday, 46% or $5.6 million had been collected out of the $12.2 million that had been extended. And even though the second installment isn’t due until January 14th, McBride said most of the taxpayers are paying the full amount due.
Starting Monday, McBride said there will be a 1.5% penalty on the first installment even if the taxpayer pays both of them at once. And starting Monday, local banks will only be able to accept payments for the second installment.
In addition to the local banks, taxes can be paid in the treasurer’s office at the courthouse, or they can be left in the drop box in front of the courthouse. They can also be paid online at govtechtaxpro.com.
