ISP INVESTIGATES TRAFFIC CRASH WITH INJURIES
The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 12
WHAT: Single Vehicle Traffic Crash with Injuries
WHERE: Interstate 70 westbound near Milepost 76.5, Fayette County
WHEN: Nov. 17, 2021 at approximately 1:57 a.m.
VEHICLE: Unit 1 – Blue 2004 Freightliner Truck Tractor Semi-Trailer
DRIVER: Unit 1 – Mario A. Rojas, 46-year-old male from Miami, FL - Transported to an area hospital with injuries.
PRELIMINARY: Preliminary investigative details indicate the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling westbound on Interstate 70 approaching exit 76. For an unknown reason Unit 1 traveled off the roadway left striking a guardrail and continued off the roadway down the bridge embankment and then struck the Union Pacific Rail line located at the intersection with Brewbaker Drive in St. Elmo, IL. The driver was transported by Air Evac to an area hospital with injuries.
CHARGES: The driver of Unit 1 was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
