On November 14, 2021, at 4:41 p.m. Gibson County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Naas conducted a traffic stop on a Gray 2007 Volkswagon beetle for having an expired license plate. Upon stopping the vehicle in the 6700 block of South State Road 57 Deputy Naas identified the driver as 31-year-old Chantel Powell of Oakland City. During a roadside investigation Deputy Naas ran Ms. Powell through the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles and discovered that Ms. Powell’s operators license had been suspended on a prior Driving While Suspended conviction. At that point Deputy Naas placed Ms. Powell into custody and transported her to the Gibson County Jail where she was charged with Driving While Suspended/Prior. She has since posted a $650 bond.
