From Wabash County Sheriff Derek Morgan:
On 01.11.2020 the Wabash County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop a 2019 Chevy Malibu for the driver not wearing his seat belt. The deputy and officers from the Mt. Carmel Police Department had just dealt with an unwanted person at Wabash Valley College, whom was the driver of the vehicle. The driver, 26 year old Trevor L. Mitchell of Mt. Carmel , was advised to leave the area and not to drive as he appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance.
Officers left the area and the deputy later observed Mitchell driving north bound on Friendsville Ave. not wearing his seat belt. The deputy initiated a traffic stop but Mitchell would not pull over. Mitchell continued north bound on Friendsville Ave. holding his hands out the window or giving the deputy a peace sign, swerving into the south bound lane. As they continued north bound Mitchell called 911 through Onstar and told the dispatcher to have to police quit chasing him and that he was not going to pullover until he was home. Mitchell later pulled over at the intersection with E 1000 Rd.
Mitchell was taken into custody on the following charges: Fleeing/Attempting to Elude a police officer, DUI (drugs) , and Felony Disorderly Conduct. (misuse of 911)
Mitchell made a court appearance on Monday where he was charged with DUI and fleeing or eluding a police officer along with several other traffic offenses. He was released after posting $150 cash bond.
