Charge Dropped For One Of Four Verizon Armed Robbery Suspects

Charges have been dropped against one of the four people arrested in connection to last month’s armed robbery at the Verizon Wireless store in Mt. Carmel.

During a preliminary hearing today in Wabash County Circuit Court, Associate Judge Thomas Dinn III ruled that probable cause didn’t exist in the case of 20 year old Dionjahnae Cannon who was charged with a Class 1 felony charge of conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

Mt. Carmel Police Detective Sgt. Mike McWilliams was the only witness during the preliminary hearing for Cannon and 24 year old Anthony Suber. Cannon and Suber were both charged with armed robbery conspiracy in connection to the July 30th holdup at the Verizon store at 9th and Cherry Streets in Mt. Carmel.

McWilliams detailed the circumstances of the case in which he said Cannon and Suber were not inside the store when the robbery took place and waited in the car which was parked in the alley behind the store. Suber was the alleged driver of the getaway car while Cannon was a front seat passenger.

The hearing became tense at times when Suber disputed McWilliams’ testimony and at one point, Rinn admonished Suber to calm down. McWilliams said Suber told him he had picked the Mt. Carmel store to rob and was being paid $100 for his part in the crime.

After probable cause was found in Suber’s case, court appointed attorney William Easton entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. A bond reduction hearing is set for August 26th.

A third defendant in the case, 18 year old Jaylen Davis, was also in court today. Public defender James Lane waived the preliminary hearing on Davis’ behalf and entered a not guilty plea.

During his testimony, McWilliams said Davis and 18 year old Latrell Coe were the two that brandished handguns and robbed the Verizon store. Coe is still being held on other charges in Crawford County where the four were apprehended after a chase north on Route 1.

Pre-trial hearings for Suber and Davis are set for September 9th. They continue to be held in the Wabash County Jail.

All four of the subjects are from the Indianapolis area where FBI agents there are trying to link them to cell phone store robberies in other locations including Ohio.
