An October 7th jury trial has been set in the aggravated cruelty case of 28 year old Thomas Arender of Mt. Carmel. Arender is charged with the Class 4 felony in connection to the starvation death of a pit bull earlier this year. Arender was in court this morning for a brief pre-trial hearing in which Judge Christopher Weber set a final pre-trial hearing for September 10th at 11 with the trial scheduled to begin on October 7th.
As with Arender’s other court appearances, roughly two dozen members of the Wabash County Animal Shelter Buddies were on hand to honor the memory of the one year old pit bull Zeus that Arender allegedly starved to death earlier this year. Arender remains free on a $10,000 bond. A condition of that bond is that he surrendered any pets and not oversee the care of any pets.
