Future Of Girl Scout Cabin In Doubt

The building known as the Girl Scout cabin at the top of the hill at 1st and Walnut Street could be the next city structure to be torn down if action isn’t taken. The building is owned by the City and currently utilized rent-free by Heartland Worship Center for a food pantry. But, the building’s condition has deteriorated to the point that Heartland has told the city they’re moving to a new location. City Clerk Rudy Witsman said commissioners need to decide if they want to spend money to repair the building, find another occupant, or eventually tear it down. Commissioner Justin Dulgar said he hoped something could be done to save the building. Witsman asked the council to visit the building and offer ideas on what direction the city should take.
