Mt. Carmel Street Department workers started work Monday on installing
new islands in uptown…..the first of which is at the 3rd and Market intersection.
City officials had approved a contractor to do the work, but opted to let city employees build the first island, and determine the feasibility of that approach. Mayor Judge said the city opted for a maroon color
as opposed to the original gray.
Mt. Carmel Street Superintendent Dave Easter
said his crews have also been busy taking the old electronic traffic lights
down and installing the new decorative stop signs, uptown.
Easter said his department has been dealing with the torrential rains
as well.
