WVC GED COMPLETION CEREMONY

Mt. Carmel, IL –  Wabash Valley College held a GED Completion Ceremony on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, in the Brubeck Arts Center Gallery.  Each of the graduates completed the high school equivalency testing requirements during the 2018-2019 academic year and are now ready for college.  The ceremony opened with a brief welcome and introduction from Kalie Naas, Director of the Learning Skills Center.  Robert Conn, Dean of Instruction, shared a few opening remarks, while Emily Waterbury, WVC Coordinator of Enrollment Management, spoke briefly to the students about the programs and degrees that WVC has to offer.  Next, Larry Harrelson, from the Department of Employment Security, shared with the graduates the services he provides, opportunities, and resources in the employment world.  Samuel Stoltz, a 2018 WVC GED graduate, offered an encouraging message to the graduates, highlighting the importance of making the most out of college and that receiving a GED opens the door for new and exciting opportunities.  Finally, the graduates were awarded their certificates and scholarships and enjoyed a light breakfast catered by the Red Café immediately following the ceremony.

The entire GED program, including the testing, was completely free for all the graduates.  WVC graduated nine GED completers this school year.  Four students are enrolled at WVC for the fall and three students received a WVC tuition scholarship for two semesters.  The 2019 graduates are:  Haylei Adams, James Agnew, Abigail Anderson, Ronda Cullison, Stephanie Fluty, Samantha Harms, Sean Hunt, Seth Kuehne, and Jacob Lewis.

FREE GED Test Prep classes are offered throughout the year at Wabash Valley College.  The next class will be offered July 2-August 8.  Classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with students choosing to take the classes from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon, or 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.  Students must register Tuesday, June 25 at 8:00 a.m. or 5:00 p.m. in the Applied Arts Building Room 104, or before the first day of class on July 2.  Free tutoring, instruction, and materials are available.  Call the Learning Skills Center at Wabash Valley College at 618-263-5126 or toll free at 866-982-4233, ext. 3510.
