We finally officially know when the 2019-20 school year starts in Wabash District #348. Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer was the guest speaker at Tuesday’s Wabash County Retail Merchants Committee meeting, and he announced that the new school year starts on Wednesday, August 14th for students with teachers reporting a couple of days earlier on the 12th. Bleyer said the uncertainty over the school calendar was because of decisions being made at the state level.
And if you’re planning ahead for Spring Break next year…in District #348, Spring Break 2020 will be April 6th through 10th.
Bleyer also said additional employment hires are expected at the June and July board meetings. He said there have been 60 new people hired in the district this year. According to Bleyer, since the district pays more than surrounding districts, employees in those districts are being actively recruited to work in District #348.
And after many years of money woes, much of it generated from education cuts in Springfield, Bleyer said District #348 is expected to pass a balanced budget for the upcoming year.
