For the second time in recent weeks, a soft lock down was initiated at local schools because of a suspicious person.
Wabash District #348 Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer said the elementary and grade schools were put on a soft lock down today for precautionary reasons.
“After police investigation, no threat was detected and the schools resumed normal activities,” Bleyer stated.
MCPD Chief Ryan Turner said, “On today's date, the Mt. Carmel Police responded to a suspicious person in the area of the elementary school. The school district followed protocol and placed the schools on soft lockdown. Police were able to find the individual in question. The person was not a threat to the school or any other person.”
On October 17th, the grade school was placed on a soft lockdown after a suspicious man was spotted by the wood line behind the school standing there briefly and before going back into the wooded area.
Again today, police could be seen searching the woodline between the elementary and grade schools.
