On 10/14/19 Mt. Carmel Police arrested Cole W. Stewart, age 22, of Mt. Carmel following a traffic stop in the 200 block of W 6th Street. During the stop it was determined Stewart did not possess a driver’s license and was placed under arrest. Officers located several knives and a lock picking set on Stewart during the arrest. Stewart is a felon and prohibited from possessing the types of knives he had on his person.
Stewart was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged with No Valid Driver’s License and Unlawful Use of Weapon by Felon.
Later on 10/14/19 Mt. Carmel Police responded to a burglary to the Hope Fellowship Church located in the 1200 block of Landes Street. Responding officers found numerous items stolen from the church including a computer, guitars, cash, and two briefcases. Officers began investigating further and were able to work the case back to Stewart’s home. All items stolen were recovered at this residence.
Stewart was later given an additional charge of Burglary.
Stewart is presently on Parole through the Illinois Department of Corrections for a 2017 Burglary conviction out of Wabash County.
Stewart is being held on a $5000 cash bond at the Wabash County Jail.
