Two Charged After Armored Truck Rear Ends Semi On I-64

ISP DISTRICT 19 TRAFFIC CRASH ALERT

The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 19:

WHAT: Personal Injury Traffic Crash

WHERE: I-64 W/B Milepost 97

WHEN: 01/16/2019 – 12:44 pm

VEHICLES: Unit 1: White, 2018, Peterbuilt armored truck Unit 2: White, 2011, Freightliner truck tractor, semi-trailer combination

DRIVERS: Unit 1: Joseph W. Wright, Age 23, Evansville, IN Unit 2: David B. Huffman, Age 40, Lebanon Junction, KY

PASSENGERS: Unit 1: Robert A. Ijames, Age 34, Calhoun, KY

CAUSE: Failure to reduce speed

TRANSPORTS: Ijames was transported to an area hospital.

PRELIMINARY: According to the preliminary traffic crash investigation, Wright and Ijames were traveling westbound in the white, 2018 Peterbuilt armored truck on Interstate 64 at milepost 97. The armored truck struck the rear of the white, 2011 Freightliner truck tractor, semi-trailer in combination after it had merged into the driving lane from the right hand shoulder of the Interstate. Ijames was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of injuries that he sustained in the crash. The armored truck was towed from the scene. A D-19 Commercial Motor Vehicle Officer conducted an inspection on both vehicles involved in the crash. ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by Wayne City Ambulance, Wayne County Ambulance, Wayne City Fire Department, Sully’s Towing (Evansville, IN) and Illinois Department of Transportation.

CHARGES: Wright was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Huffman was cited for driving on a flat tire.
