Traffic stop leads to the arrest of Oakland City woman on auto theft charge

On June 13, 2018, at 3:12 p.m. Deputy U.B. Smith attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Tan 2003 Chevy Traverse for failing to signal a turn onto Hall Street from Broadway in Princeton, Indiana. Upon attempting to stop the vehicle Deputy Smith identified the driver as 25 year old Heather Cox of Oakland City, Indiana. During a roadside investigation Gibson County Central Dispatch informed Deputy Smith that the vehicle that he had stopped had been reported stolen by Knox County earlier in the day. At the conclusion of his investigation Deputy Smith placed Ms. Cox into custody and transported her to the Gibson County Jail. Upon arriving at the Gibson County Jail Ms. Cox was charged with:

Auto Theft
Possession of Methamphetamines
Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated
Possession of Paraphernalia

She remains in custody on a $750 bond. 

Assisting Deputy Smith in his investigation was Princeton Officers Jason Swan, Lincoln Edwards, and Sheriff Deputy Jennifer Loesch.

All Criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
