ISP Seizes 62 Pounds of Pot

An Illinois State Police trooper patrolling Interstate 70 west of Vandalia discovered 62 pounds of cannabis (marijuana) during a traffic stop. The street value of the seized cannabis was approximately $150,000.

On Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at approximately 4:37 p.m., an ISP trooper initiated a traffic stop on a silver Toyota Camry for following too closely. During the traffic stop, approximately 62 pounds of cannabis was discovered.

The driver, Youzhen Huang (24), of Philadelphia, PA was charged with Cannabis Trafficking, Possession of Cannabis, Manufacture/Delivery of Cannabis, Calculated Cannabis Conspiracy, and warned for following too closely. Mr. Huang, along with passengers, Liyang Zhao (23) and Yong Da Huang (21) were incarcerated at the Fayette County Jail. The Fayette County State’s Attorney and Southeastern Illinois Drug Task Force assisted with the investigation.

“The Illinois State Police continues our commitment to battling the drug abuse issues facing our communities,” said ISP District 12 Commander, Captain Cory Ristvedt.

The public is reminded that all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
